Meet Dr. Michael Maguire
An experienced orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Michael Maguire specialises in minimally invasive surgery of the hand and upper limb, and the non-operative management of sporting injuries, degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis and ganglions, as well as trauma and fractures of the upper limb.
Dr Maguire has a strong interest in endoscopic and ultrasound-guided techniques for the treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Cubital Tunnel Syndrome and has been a pioneer of ‘Ultra-Minimally Invasive Surgery’ and ‘WALANT’ (wide awake local anaesthesia no tourniquet) surgery techniques in Queensland.
The Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre (MISC) is home to Maguire Upper Limb. MISC is a Fully Licenced Day Hospital with Queensland Health and has been accredited by CPG as a Day Procedure Unit. As a licenced hospital and “Office Based” Out Patient Facility, our hybrid model of health care offers all patients the “Private Hospital Experience” whether they are uninsured, under Work Cover, DVA or have Private Health Insurance.
Dr Maguire graduated with his medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1993 and worked as a junior doctor in Queensland before moving to NSW to complete his formal orthopaedic training. He successfully completed his FRACS (Ortho) in 2006 after four years of both general orthopaedic and hand surgery training.
Following his general orthopaedic training, Dr Maguire undertook further subspecialty fellowship training in upper limb surgery in Queensland, Sydney and Melbourne.
He also has a particular interest in the management of all sports injuries of both the upper limb and lower limb and has completed his Masters of Sports Medicine through the University of Queensland.
Dr Maguire has been published in international journals and regularly travels abroad to further his upper limb surgery and sports medicine knowledge and training.
